Empowering minds, nurturing lives;
your path to understanding, healing and thriving
Scott Alvord , PsyD., ABPP

I hold a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from George Fox University and have dedicated my career to the field of neuropsychology, with a deep commitment to providing practical and compassionate care for individuals facing unique challenges. My journey began during my internship and residency at the VA Gulf Coast Hospital in Mississippi, which included a rotation at Keesler Air Force Base. During this pivotal period, under the guidance of a seasoned Neuropsychologist, I conducted evaluations on Naval Pilots. It was here that I developed an unwavering fascination for the intricacies and complexities of the human brain. Witnessing individuals operate at an exceptionally high level, constantly pushing their cognitive and emotional boundaries as pilots, ignited my passion for understanding the inner workings of the mind.
After completing my residency, I embarked on a two-year post-doctoral residency at the Oregon State Hospital, specializing in forensic evaluation and neuropsychology. This experience deepened my understanding of the human psyche, its interaction with the legal system, and the critical role cognitive dysfunction plays in everyday life and constraints of the law, often for fragile individuals.
Eighteen years ago, I founded PsychNW, a private practice that uniquely combines my expertise in neuropsychology with a commitment to providing efficient, practical, and compassionate care for individuals facing unique challenges. My approach to psychological assessment emphasizes efficiency, practicality and individual access to care/resources. This approach, combined with a compassionate outlook, is at the core of my practice approach, and I am dedicated to assisting individuals in navigating the complexities of their mental health and neuropsychological conditions.
On a personal note, when I step away from the world of psychology, I find solace in the great outdoors. I relish fly fishing, hiking adventures with my wife and treasure hunting with my brother (also a psychologist). I routinely engage in spirited games of pickleball with my teenage children and savor the simple joys of snuggling with my faithful little dog, “Deer.” Additionally, I have a passion for cars, and you’ll often find me in my shop, indulging my fascination with classic sports cars and vintage 4x4s. These diverse interests reflect my belief in the importance of life balance and my commitment to pursuing both professional excellence and personal fulfillment.
