What is Neuropsychology?

Neuropsychology looks at the relationship between brain function and behavior.

Clinical Neuropsychologists are healthcare professionals within the field of both clinical neuropsychology and psychology that have special expertise in the applied science of brain-behavior relationships. The specialty of clinical neuropsychology is recognized by the American Psychological Association.

Neuropsychological testing assesses brain functions such as memory, learning, attention and cognitive ability but a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment takes into account factors such as depression, anxiety, genetic or familial aspects. It is critical for the clinician to explore the type and extent of difficulties experienced not only currently but also historically. At PsychNW, the clinical team looks beyond the referral and utilizes the testing and its results to identify the root of the difficulties.

PsychNW prides itself on thoughtful, precise and effective recommendations. Our practice differs from others because we make neuropsychology as relaxing and interactive as possible. Neuropsychological testing can yield results that clarify previous diagnoses. This allows for more streamlined approaches to treatment.

The goal of neuropsychology testing is to get an accurate assessment of your (or your loved one’s) brain functioning with respect to:

  • Memory
  • Learning
  • Attention

  • Visual perception
  • Motor functioning
  • Academic functioning
